Tabby: A Better Alternative To PuTTY/Command Prompt & PowerShell

Every programmer and System Administrator knows something about Telnet and SSH. Usually, the entry point software to do this was PuTTY. And for CLI (Command Line Interface) stuff it was your usual black-screened Cmd.exe aka Command Prompt. And if you wanted a better and more powerful version of the humble Command Prompt you had to use PowerShell. Not bad at all. They have been the mainstay for many programmers over the years. However, these applications have had certain limitations:

  • Lack of tabbed interfaces. Seriously, opening up new windows just to have have multiple working screens is not UX-friendly.
  • Better SSH connection handling.
  • Customizable interfaces
  • Et cetera.

So, how would it be if we had an application that has all these rolled into one? Enter Tabby. Tabby gives us all these. Tabby comes with:

  1. Better SSH connection handling than PuTTY. You can save the connection credentials and log in back by a single key tap.
  2. Comes with a tabbed interface. You can open as many tabs as you want with each handling a different task say some tabs could be running CLI operations on your machine while others could be connected to various Telnet/SSH instances all in one app. And Tabby handles all these without any problem.
  3. And its UI is really chic and customizable.

So if you are looking to move away from the 'boring' PuTTY/Command Prompt/PowerShell you can try it out Tabby.
